Decolonizing Climate Action

March 15, 2023

Mar 15, 2023 – 13:00 PM-14:00 PM (Atlantic)

Climate change poses threats and dangers to the survival of indigenous communities worldwide, even though indigenous peoples contribute the least to greenhouse emissions. Comprising less than 5% of the world’s population, indigenous people protect 80% of global biodiversity. In addition, indigenous peoples interpret and react to the impacts of climate change in creative ways, drawing on traditional knowledge and other technologies to find solutions which may help society at large to cope with impending changes. Join us for this session where students will learn about how the full and effective participation of indigenous communities is crucial to ensure that vulnerable communities are not negatively affected by climate change.
